“I started making music in 8th grade in my friends’ basement since his big brother had a studio and produced his own music. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Eventually I made a couple of hundred songs throughout high school, and just grinded on it every day.

Charlie Finch, also known by his stage name charlieonnafriday, is a remarkably talented 21-year-old artist who has demonstrated a remarkable ability to blend various musical genres such as alternative, pop, hip hop, and country. An electrifying energy marks his performances, and his nostalgic lyrics reflect the experiences that have shaped his burgeoning career. Charlie gained widespread attention during the pandemic after his content went viral on TikTok. After making a name for himself, he landed a record deal with Island Records, marking a significant milestone in his career. Since then, he has enjoyed remarkable success with several platinum hits, most notably "Enough" and "After Hours." Following the success of "After Hours," the track was included on his 2022 debut EP titled "ONNAFRIDAY," released and distributed through Island Records, a division of Universal Music Group, and his label, Onnafriday Records. The EP features collaborations with Kidd G and Lil Keed, and we continue to extend our heartfelt condolences to Lil Keed and his family.

When Charlie and Island Records revealed the upcoming release of his full-length album “Wild Child,” the excitement was palpable among his massive following of over a million fans across all platforms. Eager to get a taste of the new album, Charlie dropped four singles: “I Don’t Wanna Go Downtown,” “Bottle Go Down,” “Warning Shot,” and “When I’m Leavin.” These singles took the internet by storm, particularly on popular social media platforms like TikTok, X, and Instagram. However, “I Don’t Wanna Go Downtown” truly caught my attention. It was evident that Charlie’s sophomore album would surpass his first project, showcasing his musical growth and vocal progression. The album was officially released at midnight on August 23rd. It was again released and distributed through Island Records, a division of Universal Music Group, and his label, Onnafriday Records. “Wild Child” holds features from the well-known New York musician Lil TJay and Bankroll Hayden, whose debut album “Pain Is Temporary” was released in 2020. “Wild Child” also has production and writing done by Andrew Cedar, Aldae, Charlie Handsome, Joe London, and many more talented musicians who are a staple in the music industry. Before the album was officially out, Charlie made it known that he would be embarking on a tour titled “TheOnnaFriday Tour” to go hand in hand with the new album release, making it his first time touring in the US as a headliner.

Thanks to Lizzy Brodie and the wonderful team at Universal Music, I had the incredible opportunity to attend his headline performance at Cervantes Other Side in Denver, Colorado. I was blown away by the fantastic show put on by him and his team. Just as he often emphasizes in his music, he surrounds himself with his friends, who also play critical roles in his career. Among them, his photographer captures stunning moments, his DJ sets the perfect vibe, and his blood brother manages the merch table, offering a variety of merchandise, including shirts, hats, and souvenirs. The atmosphere was electric as the crowd passionately sang along to every song. Charlie's performance was absolutely fascinating, as he sang out each lyric with an energy that echoed throughout the venue. Despite my unfamiliarity with some of the songs, I couldn't help but be swept up in the crowd's enthusiasm. Amid the excitement, I noticed a teenager standing near the front with a girl who appeared to be his sister. It was heartwarming to witness Charlie's genuine connection with his fans. He not only acknowledged the teenager but actively involved him in the performance, creating a truly unforgettable experience for the young fan. Throughout the entire show, Charlie's relentless passion and commitment to his craft glimmered through in every note. His high-intensity performance not only showcased his unique talent but also demonstrated his deep appreciation for his audience, making it an evening to remember for everyone in attendance. There was even a moment where they took a break from performing and allowed two fans to come on the stage; they brought out a table and cups and made the fans play a round of beer pong to win free merch.

“I think my one dream collab would be Post Malone, hes been my favorite artist since I was a kid so that would be a great collaboration for me if possible.”

Interview With Charlie

Omar: How does it feel to achieve platinum status as an artist just a few years after completing high school?

Charlie: It feels crazy. This is like wild. After Hours is a song my friends and I made one day in my parents' basement. We always talked about doing stuff like this, so it's very full circle for me. If you had told those high school kids that the song would be platinum, we would have never believed that at the time.

Omar: I'd love to know, especially since this is your first US tour, which city you're most looking forward to performing in.

Charlie: I like Denver a lot!

Omar: That's where I'm from. That's really lit.

Charlie: Hell yeah, that's wild. We did a lot of frat shows in Boulder at CU, and those were always crazy, so I think the energy in Denver will have a similar vibe. I'm looking forward to Denver the most.

Omar: For sure, bro; I'll be attending the Denver show, so I'll reach out when you touch down so we can exchange information.
